Edited, two new chapters added. This book looks at the central doctrine of the Christian Religion; the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The ancient story of the Jewish carpenter is brought out into the harsh light of 21st Century beliefs and cultural "truths" and tested to see how it stands against the modern presuppositions. Who was this poor Jewish carpenter's son? Can belief in miracles really be acceptable in the modern reality? How does the modern concept of entropy, the second law of thermal dynamics play into the ancient story? Was the resurrection a physical reality? How does the promise of the Jewish carpenter relate to us today? These questions are addressed and more, and the author relates his own experiences with death and the loss of loved ones.

I downloaded this to be my Holy Week reading this year. It was my plan to read a couple of chapters each day this week. I was so fascinated with the book and the subject matter I read the whole thing in one night. The author does a wonderful job of linking old testament scripture and the life, death and resurrection of Christ. I'd put this on my must read for the Easter season.Product details

The Physical Death and Resurrection of a Jewish Carpenter and the end of entropy as we know it edition by Mark Hodges Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
Like the first reviewer, I ended up reading this book in one sitting.
First, I was drawn in by the power and freshness and vibrancy of Hodge's prose. He writes about the resurrection of Jesus in a way that would strike and draw-in even readers who already strongly believe in it. And his points about how the second law of thermodynamics shows that traditional evolutionary theory doesn't make sense (and that there must have been a divine intervention to create life) -- these are absolutely fascinating and intriguing. I would love to read a second edition in which Hodges develops this idea much further -- perhaps making the whole piece about that.
But I also read the book in one sitting because I skipped a lot. I skipped the long chunks of scripture Hodges quoted. (It would have been better had he used summary and paraphrase to lead me THROUGH scripture to explain his points.) And I started skipping because I kept getting distracted, and sometimes confused, by surface-level errors (punctuation, spelling, capitalization).
Hodge's ideas and the power of his prose make this e-book worth downloading. But I hope the author revises this edition to make the idea about entropy was more developed and to make the presentation as a whole was easier to read (with less distracting errors).
I would buy a second edition for even more money in a heartbeat, if so.
